How to Track the ISS Online

The International Space StationWant to know how to track the real-time location of the International Space Station ?

Depending on your location around the globe, the International Space Station may be visible or it may not be. I was outside the other day and saw it as a tiny dot flying around. To the contrary, others could see it as a pea sized object traveling across the sky, depending on your location or elevation on the planet.

How do you get a glimpse of the International Space Station? How do you know where it's going to be?

When I heard that the ISS was going to be up to 5 times more visible over the past weekend, I went searching around the web to see how I could track the location of the ISS. I discovered a few good websites but the one the best one listed below.

Track the International Space Station online:
Spaceflight.nasa.gov: this site gives you real time orbital tracking of the International Space Station in a very easy and understandable layout. I used this website for my brief viewing of the space station and confirmed that the website is accurate. There are a few other good websites out there, though, I found this one to be the simplest one. Take a look for yourself and maybe tonight you can get a peek of it yourself!

Scientist Claims Humans Will Become Extinct In 100 Years

Are humans on the brink of extinction? How long do we have left?

Overpopulation, food shortages, climate change, and future wars over food. Are we already at the point of no return? According to 95 year old Professor Frank Fenner, we are.

"We're going to become extinct. Whatever we do now is too late." He said in an interview with The Australian.

He spells a very bleak future for humankind. As the population of human beings keeps growing from 7 billion and beyond, Fenner claims this will put a critical strain on the already vanishing global food supplies. With countries struggling to get food this will cause "food wars" he says .

Climate change is yet another problem as it could trigger global drought and essentially make the earth into no man's land -- causing even more food shortages in the near future.

Although mankind is already trying to overcome the problem of global warming, Professor Frank Fenner says it is already too late.

"Homo sapiens will become extinct, perhaps within 100 years," he said. "A lot of other animals will, too. It's an irreversible situation. I think it's too late."

I guess the only thing to do now is to grab a front seat ticket to the end of the world. Humans are in for one hellish ride! If 2012 don't get us, maybe this will?

I'll leave you with these words of wisdom by Fenner, "Mitigation would slow things down a bit, but there are too many people here already." Hm, ouch!

Maybe this guy just isn't a people person?

The Solar Storm that may End it All in 2013

In the next few years, NASA has predicted that solar storms may get so intense that it could utterly end all electronic technology known to man. Essentially, knocking us all back the the pioneer days!

The period of the highest solar intensity is said to hit somewhere around 2013, however, It could happen any day now. The Sun has be very quiet for the past several years and that is just an indication of the calming before the storm.

Richard Fisher, who is head of the Heliophysics Division at NASA is worried, saying:

"The sun is waking up from a deep slumber, and in the next few years we expect to see much higher levels of solar activity. At the same time, our technological society has developed an unprecedented sensitivity to solar storms. The intersection of these two issues is what we're getting together to discuss."

The Space Weather Enterprise Forum at the National Press Club held a meeting in Washington DC on June 8th to discuss the impact that these solar storms may cause.

The increase in solar activity is a serous cause for concern. If the earth was hit with excessive solar radiation this could mean the end for many of the technology we rely on for safety and survival. Were talking about electronic based Smart power grids, GPS, airplanes, air travel, emergency radio, satellites, phones, computers, that can all be destroyed from intense solar activity.

Richard Fisher said this in an interview by the Daily Telegraph:

"We know it is coming but we don’t know how bad it is going to be. It will disrupt communication devices such as satellites and car navigation's, air travel, the banking system, our computers, everything that is electronic. It will cause major problems for the world."

What can we do about it?
I know it kinda sounds like the end of the world, however, there are things we can do. For example, if we can get proper warnings and forecasting of the storms; then we can put satellites in what they call "safe mode" and pray that it doesn't get fried. Turning off electronic devices and removing the batteries may also prevent damage. Power companies may need to even disconnect transformers to prevent the whole grid from going down.

So I guess these are some of the things we can do to prevent problems, though, if we don't get the proper forecasting in place; we will all get caught in the storm.

Solar storms are nothing new. The Earth has been hit many times before. Except when those storms hit; the world didn't run on electronics. We are in for one wild ride!

What do you think is going to happen?

What do a Group of Physicists do when Nobody is Looking?

What Do A Group Of Physicists Do When Nobody Is Looking?

I'll tell you what they do! They grab a set of drums, a guitar, a microphone, possibly a time machine, and jam their way through the universe! How cool is that?

And you thought they came up with incomprehensible mathematical concepts all day! Nope!

What do they do with these amazing scientific instruments you may ask? They make music of course! This group of physicists call themselves "The Physicists" and you can hear them from universes away. They make music on the lines of death metal/techno/psychedelic and it creates a perfect harmony of interstellar amazingness!

If only NASA would send there music through our galaxy maybe the ET's would finally send something back!

They live in Helsinki, Uusimaa Finland and use a scientific approach to metal. You can listen to 4 songs on their myspace page, like Godfence, Oppenheimer, Einstein Intoxicated, and Bolzmann American Lectures. myspace.com/physicsdomain

I'd have to say my favorite song is Bolzmann American Lectures. But there's not a song that I've listened too that I don't like.  It's not often you can learn stuff while listening to music!

Possible Life On Saturn's Moon Titan Found

Saturns's moon Titan
Scientists are speculating that there could be possible life on Saturn's moon Titan. They have found strange chemical activity that could lead to evidence of alien life.

Titan is the second largest moon in the solar system. Its bigger than both Mercury and Pluto. The atmosphere is very thick and full of nitrogen, methane, and other stuff. No liquid water exists on Titan, however, there are lakes of liquid methane.

Titan is way too cold to have liquid water, which as we know is essential for life; at least on our planet. Or is it?

With new discoveries like organisms found on Lost Hammer spring, Axel Heiberg island, Canada we now know that liquid water and oxygen are not the only elements that will support life. There are organisms that can breathe other elements like sulfate for example. In the case of Titan, scientists are measuring the depleting levels of hydrogen on the surface that are without any explanation whatsoever.

Could it be possible that there are microscopic organisms consuming the hydrogen?

One thing to consider is that the previous measurements of Titan's hydrogen levels could have been over estimated. That would make it seem as if the hydrogen on the surface is depleting when its really not. Only future tests will tell.

Currently, the Titan Mare Explorer is being proposed to NASA for development. If NASA accepts the proposal then it will be set to launch around 2017. The only way for us to know for certain if there is life on Titan is the send a probe up there. Until then, we can only speculate what's up there and causing this strange chemical disturbance. It might be alien life; it might be nothing. For the sake of my sanity, I hope its life!

5 Ways To Become Immortal

Want to become Immortal? You're in luck because scientists say in about 20 years we will have the technology to not only prolong life far beyond what it is today, but, possibly, allow human beings to live forever!

How can this be done? Here are 5 of the methods we may use in the future to become immortal:

1. Nanotechnologies that can replace our vital organs:  There are already ways scientists can create artificial pancreases so this isn't as crazy as it sounds. It won't be long before this technology is perfected. This means that we will get to replace any organ in our body with a new one. So if your heart is failing, you can go to the doctor and order a new one! It's like replaces old parts with new ones. We will get to do this over and over again until technology is advanced enough so that our actual organs can last forever.

Immortality2. Neural implants: These little chip-like things that can attach directly onto someone's brain. They can help stimulate the brain for people who have had strokes or head injuries. They can also ease the effects of Parkinson's disease and depression. In addition, they can be used as a pathway from brain to computer. In the future you will be able to control machines with your mind. Perhaps you could even control other people! This technology will most likely ensure that our brains will never degenerate and our memory will never delete or get destroyed. Any brain damage will be automatically repaired(or transferred into a machine). (See: Transferring Human Consciousness)

3. Nanobots that replace blood cells: These will be used as a supplement for our natural blood cells and they will be thousands of times more effective. For example, oxygen will be supplied much more effectively and you will most likely be able to run at a full sprint for 15 minutes and stay under water for hours without a breath. Also, they will allow healing and repair to be nearly instant and will ensure that the cells in our body never decay, allowing us to never age or maybe we could even grow younger instead of older! Sounds pretty cool huh?

4. Cyborg technology: This is pretty self explanatory. In the future instead of replacing body parts with biological copies, we may be able to replace them with mechanical copies. We will then become super human biological cyborgs. We will live forever and be nearly invincible. (See: Dog's Head Kept Alive Without a Body)

5. Cryonics: Cryonics is a technology that uses vitrification instead of freezing for the preservation of humans and animals. The idea is you can have yourself preserved until medical technology is available to heal you. So even if you die, you can be restored at a later date. Currently, around 200 people have had this procedure since 1962. In the United States, only people who are pronounced clinically dead can have cryonics performed. The only problem, the technology does not yet exist to bring these people back to life, without killing them.

I recently watched the movie Zardoz and found it was an interesting take on the effects of immortality. In the movie, the humans were begging to die! Would life really get that boring?

Fountain of Youth

Are you sure you don't want to die? Even if you could live forever, are you really sure you would want to?

Life on Mars is Possible Researchers Say

Is life on mars possible? Researchers have discovered methane-eating bacteria in a spring in Canada's extreme North. Located on Axel Heiberg island the spring is called the Lost Hammer spring and could be very similar to springs that have existed on Mars. Photos taken by the Mars Orbiter have shown new gullies being formed on Mars. The only thing is that nobody knows what the hell is doing it. Some scientists speculate that the answer is in springs like the Lost Hammer spring which could possibly exist on Mars.

The bacteria that exists in this spring is thought to eat methane and maybe breathe sulfate instead of oxygen. The spring lacks any consumable amounts of oxygen so the bacteria wouldn't be able to breathe it anyway. Worth noting is the fact that the scientist only speculate that they breathe sulfate. No evidence has proven it as of yet.  Also, the water in this spring is extremely cold and its so salty that it never freezes. The only thing that catches the eye is the bubbles of methane that rise to the surface. Big bubbles of methane I might add.

Is life on Mars possible?Recent discoveries have proven that Methane and frozen water exist on Mars. Some areas on Mars reach temperatures of -10 to 0 degrees. Some temperatures even can reach above 0 degrees Celsius. When you compare it to that of the temperatures that surround the Lost Hammer spring of -50 degrees or more; then you can understand that life on Mars is essentially more likely. The Lost Hammer spring is one of the most extreme and inhospitable environments ever found. This is a very similar discovery to the speculation that there are aliens on Titan, one of Saturn's moons.

So do you think this new research supports the notion that life on Mars is possible?

8 Reasons Why Albert Einstien Was So Smart

So, why was Albert Einstein so dang smart? Was he born with great genius? Did he just think a bit differently than normal? What was it? Hell if I know, but from what information I can find about him I've determined it's a combination of things. Here are 8 reasons why Albert Einstein was so dang smart.

 1. He learned about what he wanted to learn and not what other authority's like school wanted him to learn.

2. The parietal operculum region of his brain was missing. This let other parts of his brain like the parietal lobe grow larger.

3. Parts of his Sylvian fissure in his brain  were no where to be found. This could of enabled the neurons in that part of the brain to work better.

4. Einstein thought visually. Instead of thinking about information and words; he thought by visually imagining things.

5. His inferior parietal lobe was 15 percent wider than normal. This region of the brain is connected to mathematics.

6. He had more glial cells in his brain. Glial cells support nutrition in the brain and help with synthesizing information faster. That could be why he could think so powerfully.

7. He started building models and reading books about science, math, and philosophy at a young age.

8. He devoted much of his time to learning and thinking about new things.

Why do you think Einstein was so smart? Was he born with genius, or did he make himself a genius? Where is Albert Einstein's Brain now?

7 Not So Serious Quotes By Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein riding a bike
Here I have made a list of the 7 not so serious quotes by Albert Einstein. He wasn't always a serious Mr. Smarty Pants. He was actually a very funny and awkward fellow from what I hear.

1. "A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy?"
2. "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
"

3. "Isn't it strange that I who have written only unpopular books should be such a popular fellow?"

4. "Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves."

5. "Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school."

6. "I am a deeply religious nonbeliever - this is a somewhat new kind of religion."

7. "An empty stomach is not a good political adviser."
